چکیده

2014 Examples are shown that illustrate rapid changes that can take place while a thin foil specimen is under observation in a high-voltage microscope. These unusually dramatic examples emphasize the fact that for correct characterization of structural details of any crystalline material by lattice imaging microscopy particularly at surfaces, interfaces, and other defects, it is essential never to overlook the possibility that local structural features or atomic-scale defects may have been changed in the microscope prior to the recording of a micrograph or during preparation of the thin foil speciment. Electron beam induced atomic mobility combined with sequential high resolution imaging are shown to provide interesting details concerning the structure of gold and GaAs surfaces of different crystallographic orientations. Investigation on Mechanical and Electrical Properties of Cu-Ti Nanocomposite Produced by Mechanical Alloying

In this paper, Cu-Ti nanocomposite synthesized via ball milling of copper-titanium powders in 1, 3, and 6 of weight percentage compounds. The vial speed was 350 rpm and ball to powder weight ratio kept at 15:1 under Argon atmosphere, and the time of milling was 90 h. Obtained powders were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and dynamic light scattering (DLS)....

Determination of the Projected Atomic Potential by Deconvolution of the Auto-Correlation Function of TEM Electron Nano-Diffraction Patterns

We present a novel method to determine the projected atomic potential of a specimen directly from transmission electron microscopy coherent electron nano-diffraction patterns, overcoming common limitations encountered so far due to the dynamical nature of electron-matter interaction. The projected potential is obtained by deconvolution of the inverse Fourier transform of experimental diffractio...

Absolute Permeability Calculation by Direct Numerical Simulation in Porous Media

Simulating fluid flow at micro level is an ongoing problem. Simplified macroscopic flow models like Darcy’s law is unable to estimate fluid dynamic properties of porous media. The digital sample reconstruction by high resolution X-ray computed tomography scanning and fluid-dynamics simulation, together with the increasing power of super-computers, allow to carry out pore-scale simulations throu...

Dynamic Characteristics of Functionalized Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Epoxy Composites: An Experimental Approach

The effects of amine functionalization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and CNTs weight percent (wt. %), on the first bending natural frequencies and damping properties of CNT/epoxy composites are investigated in this paper. CNTs and amine functionalized CNTs (AFCNTs), with two different weight percentages, are used to manufacture the beam shaped specimens. Epoxy, CNT/epoxy (0.25 and 0.5 wt. % of CNT...

Spatial Resolution Enhancement in a 2D Photonic Crystal Based on Complex Square Lattice

We study the focusing properties of a two dimensional complex square-lattice photonic crystal (PC) comprising air holes immersed in Ge medium. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is utilized to calculate the dispersion band diagram and to simulate the image formation incorporating the perfectly matched layer (PML) boundary condition. In contrast to the common square PCs with the sam...
